A Dangerous Business Essay

The collaborative investigative report conducted by the New York Times and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation is an eye-opener on the real situation of thousands of employees working for giant industrial corporations. On the outside, it seems that American workforce is definitely more fortunate compared to those who take employment in developing countries. The general public is made to believe that every employee in the US is treated fairly and with respect. But with this documentary, the truth has been exposed. For several years, the McWane Corporation has been actively involved in contributing to the advancement of the US economy. However, this economic achievement comes with a price. Unfortunately, the collateral damage in this enterprise for monetary profit comes in the package of the human resources. Ironically, this particular organizational component is deemed to be the most important factor in the accomplishment of success in any company. A business would not function without its employees and vice versa. This natural and logical cycle has always been evident in the business world. However, in the case of McWane, their workers were treated as if they were indispensable. See more: Satirical essay about drugs As a result, plants owned by McWane holds the record for the highest number of violations regarding safety in the workplace. Looking closely on these intriguing and appalling facts about America’s workplace safety and the government’s efforts to reinforce the protection and security of the welfare of the employees, it cannot be helped to doubt the justice and labor system in the US. Based on the interviews and the accounts of former employees of McWane, it can be surmised that there is a deliberate attempt to compromise safety for the sake of increasing productivity which will eventually lead to a significant boost in McWane’s revenues. Also, the government is very lenient in punishing companies that violate safety regulations because they are afraid that penalizing a powerhouse company can send a negative message to other corporations which could drastically affect the economy of the country. The dilemma here is whether to look after the global status of a nation or paying attention to the common good of the majority. Meanwhile, workers are belittled by the top management because they think that workers can be easily replaced. They know that people cannot live without work because common individuals need to sustain their ways of living with money. Companies exploit this situation wherein they make people feel they need any job as long as they will be paid so that they can be able to afford their chosen lifestyles. Because of this, many workers were injured, incapacitated and even died while on duty at their respective workplaces due to the neglect of management, leniency of the government and the build up on the dependency on monetary compensations.

One piece of technology I can’t live without Essay

In today’s modern day and age, we are accompanied daily by little electronic gadgets. They provide us with entertainment, or as a means of communication with the rest of the world. I own a Samsung Galaxy S4, and I know that if I were to lose or not have it one day, I would go ballistic! My phone keeps me in touch with everyone around me, not only that but, it stores a lot of my personal events and pictures, and not to mention the amount of money I paid for this expensive trinket was ridiculous! To begin I am a very busy woman with a very busy schedule. I am a full time mother and student throughout the whole week, and I work at a salon on the weekends. My job consists of scheduling appointments, confirming appointments, and providing my clients with phone consultations. If I were to be phoneless, my appointments would be a disaster. Also, I receive a lot of phone calls all day from my family regarding my son. In addition, I could receive an important phone call from my doctor or health services center regarding my checkups or lab work. Not to mention, I couldn’t imagine going through an emergency and not being able to reach anyone! Next my phone has internet service, so I use it to navigate with various applications like GPS, look up phone numbers and businesses most of all I use it to check my email. I would literally be lost without it. For example, communication today is mostly done thru emails, conversation between teachers and students, important information you need to know about your major. You also can get great deals on coupons in your email which I love. There are many things you can receive in your inbox this is why I cannot live without my phone checking my email every day is very important to me. Finally phones nowadays have video cameras/cameras installed in them along with additional storage devices, planners and calendars. For instance, my phone is loaded with personal and professional pictures and videos from many years ago; they have a lot of sentimental value for me. If I were to lose them I would be devastated, I would have no way of recovering them. Also, my calendars and planners are packed with important personal dates and professional appointments, those planners are the success to my structured working days filled with appointments. The contents inside the phone are very personal and private. It consists of diary entries and personal journals about my life. In summary these are reason I cannot live without my cell phone.

Civil and Criminal Laws Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Civil and Criminal Laws - Essay Example In criminal law, the litigation is always filed by the government, who is called the prosecution. Criminal law distinguishes crimes from civil wrongs such as tort breach of contract. Criminal law has been seen as a system of regulating the behavior of individuals and groups in relation to societal norms whereas civil law is aimed primarily at the relationship between private individuals and their rights and obligations under the law. Although many ancient legal systems did not clearly define a distinction between criminal and civil law, in England there was little difference until the codification of criminal law occurred in the late nineteenth century. In most U.S. law schools, the basic course in criminal law is based upon the English common criminal law of 1750 (with some minor American modifications like the clarification of mens rea in the Model Penal Code). In civil cases, the Seventh Amendment guarantees a defendant a right to a jury trial in federal court, but that right does not apply to the states (in contrast with criminal cases). Legal system derived from the Roman Corpus Juris Civilus of Emperor Justinian I; differs from a common-law system, which relies on prior decisions to determine the outcome of a lawsuit. Most European and South American countries have a civil law system. England and most of the countries it dominated or colonized, including Canada and the United States, have a common-law system. However, within these countries, Louisiana, Quebec, and Puerto Rico exhibit the influence of French and Spanish settlers in their use of civil law systems. A body of rules that delineate private rights and remedies and govern disputes between individuals in such areas as contracts, property, and family law is distinct from criminal or public law. Punishment One of the most fundamental distinctions between civil and criminal law is in the notion of punishment. Criminal Law In criminal law, a guilty defendant is punished by either (1) incarceration in a jail or prison, (2) fine paid to the government, or, in exceptional cases, (3) execution of the defendant: the death penalty. Crimes are divided into two broad classes: felonies have a maximum possible sentence of more than one year incarceration; misdemeanors have a maximum possible sentence of less than one year incarceration. Civil Law In contrast, a defendant in civil litigation is never incarcerated and never executed. In general, a losing defendant in civil litigation only reimburses the plaintiff for losses caused by the defendant's behavior. So-called punitive damages are never awarded in a civil case under contract law. In a civil case under tort law, there is a possibility of punitive damages, if the defendant's conduct is egregious and had either (1)amalicious intent (i.e., desire to cause harm), (2)grossnegligence (i.e., conscious indifference), or (3)awillful disregard for the rights of others. The use of punitive damages makes a public example of the defendant and supposedly deters future wrongful conduct by others. Punitive damages are particularly important in torts involving dignitary harms (e.g., invasion of privacy) and civil rights, where the actual monetary injury to plaintiff(s) may be small. One can

Scio Consulting International, LLC Research Paper

Scio Consulting International, LLC - Research Paper Example ave to advance market entry strategies which entails identifying the market gaps, developing products which are tailored to specific needs and demands of the identified potential market, and conducting product standardization or differentiation depending on the preferences and customer tastes (Hossain, Patrick, & Rashid, 2012). In addition, small firms must conduct both macro and micro-environmental analysis to help identify the potential internal and external variables with the ability to impact on the performance and productivity of the firms. A born-global firm (established with the objective of multination operations in the mind) should be able to mobilize adequate financial resources and employ technical management team with the much needed skill and experience to run its global operations (Hossain, Patrick, & Rashid, 2012). The driving forces behind globalization for firms is to expand its market share, cut on its operation costs, and gain access to the global resources. The first strategy for small firms interested in global ventures is either importation or exportation or both. These initial steps are later followed by the more advanced non-export/import strategies such as franchising, licensing, strategic alliance formation, and delocalization/decentralization of its operations (Hossain, Patrick, & Rashid, 2012). The success of small firms in the international market is restricted by political risks, managerial and economic risks which potentially affects the performance and prospects of growth of these young firms. Politically, legal trade restrictions and other regulatory frameworks in the new business environment will restrict the success and the penetration ability of the new firms. Besides, other politically instigated factors such as corruption and bribery serve as a threat to the success of small firms. Economic risks which affect the success of international businesses are high inflation rate, mismanaged financial and economic policies, and

Learning experiences - Essay Example Today the world is very competitive. Communication plays a significant role in today’s global context. A large number of big business deals take place all over the world any given day. It can be seen that English language occupies the front lines of communication. English is absolutely an extensively used world language. English is the official language for so many international organizations such as United Nations, International Olympic Committee etc. I have gained good experience while attending the general education English classes. Branding Marketing Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Branding Marketing - Essay Example The LG product through LGE obeys the established rules of brand extension according to Tauber (2011). Part 2: Critic The section confirms that a better brand extension to the consumer offers satisfaction as compared to a similar established brand. Without these attributes, the consumers are disappointed and prefer the choice in recognized products. The first unsuccessful product listed is in Frito-Lay, created by Pepsi as a product to introduce the lemonade flavor. The parent company distorted the image of the brand that had been known for snack food packaging. This led the consumers to lose interest in the company that changed its line of brand composition. The other poor connection is in the launch of Wolverine World Wide’s Cat Footwear product by the caterpillar company. The company recognized for the production of building machinery launched a clothing line that deters from the company policies. The example qualifies as a poor brand extension with customers failing to appr eciate the product due to inconsistency in the company. Finally, Burger King had launched a marketing strategy that saw the inclusion of underwear as their marketing strategy. This example accords the definition of poor brand extension because the consumers realize the dreadful choice in product. Burger King recognized in the market as a leading food company changing the image to underwear loses the market share due to product inconsistency. Moreover, the association developed in underwear and food products generates unsatisfied customer relations (Cameron, 2009). Part 3 Part 1 lacks the title of the paper and makes the reader fail to understand what the essay clarifies. However, the thesis in the introduction expounds on the aspect of Intelligent Interactions. Moreover, the sentences should be proofread, and the corrections made to produce a flowing introductory paragraph. Industry Analysis The sections clearly states the available brands and their interaction within the market. Th e brand under consideration is in mobile handsets with the Android technology the subject of discussion. The author lists Samsung as the leading market product and justifies the reason, although the evidence is not adequately guaranteed in citation of the sources. This makes the brands appear as formulation of the author who does not have the capability to conduct individualized research on these companies. However, the argument and analysis of the market situation is detailed and precise. Competitive analysis Intelligence Interactions is explained as the option that would attract increased usability of the product. The participants in the Android technology are limited, and with the reduction of prices, the market is bound to be more flexible. However, the author explains that Apple has succeeded in gaining a market share based on the quality of the product. Brand Vision The competition provided by Apple limits the progress of Intelligent Interactions. The author states that their strategy would be to present the marketing strategy to establish a strong connection to the customers like the rival company. This has been included in stronger slogans and better customer services available at the needed period. The section should focus more on Intelligent Interactions as compared to Apple and discuss advanced strategies to reach consumers on an individual basis. Part 2 Target customer Analysis The explanation is accorded in a

Services Marketing - Internal marketing Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Services Marketing - Internal marketing - Essay Example It has definite advantages over the traditional way of transacting business (Amit & Zott, 2000). It eliminates paper and paper work through market automation, online transactions and payments. The governments too use the e-platform to offers service to the public Another commonly used definition of service is proposed by Kotler (1991). "Any act or performance that one party can offer to another that is essentially intangible and does not result in the ownership of anything. Provision of services and information through the internet is the primary objective of the government in most developed countries (Buckley, 2003). The private sector is much ahead in offering web based services and the motivation and outcome in web based public and private sectors provision of services differ. In the public sector the motivation and the objectives in offering e-services are numerous which makes it difficult to measure the service quality. The motivation and objectives in the private sector centre on profits and hence easily measurable. Two web based service offerings - one each from the public and private sector would be assessed in line with current service marketing models. The motivation and objectives in the private sector centre on profits and hence easily measurable. Two web based service offerings - one each from the public and private sector would be assessed in line with current service marketing models. The report first of all examines the public and private services characteristics inline with service characteristics model. The government and the public sector have committed themselves to service quality and customer orientation (Buckley, 2003). The service quality in the health care sector too has received importance. In public health services the tension between orientations towards care provision and customer satisfaction is believed to be insurmountable. The internet has provided the opportunity to overcome the difficulties in service delivery. In order to augment its service, the UK National Health Service (NHS) started offering 24-hour help and advice service conducted by nurses. This was initially offered over the telephone through NHS Direct. With the advent of technology they soon introduced NHS Direct Online in 1999 Although service industries are themselves quite heterogeneous, there are some service characteristics upon which it is useful to generalize. The characteristics discussed in this right up are: Intangibility Inseparability Heterogeneity Perishability 1.1Intangibility Service are not tangible, as stated by Berry: " A good is an object, a device, a thing; a service is a deed, a performance, an effort" (Berry, 1984). When a service is purchased, there is generally nothing tangible to show for it. This is evidence in both private and public services hooked over the web. As argued by Berry, "Services are consumed but not possessed"
